The Vermont MTEC Program
The Vermont MTEC program provides qualified Vermonters with the opportunity to be educated and trained for home-based employment in the field of medical transcription (MT). The program was developed in partnership with industry, state government and a number of Vermont colleges.
The Vermont MTEC program will provide Vermonters with a unique opportunity to enter a rapidly growing MT career with above average earning potential. Each education session consists of no more than 20 students.
Education
The Vermont MTEC program is an academically approved education program. Students enroll in an academically accredited MT certificate, receiving academic credit from participating colleges including the Vermont Technical College and Burlington College.
The Vermont MTEC program provides eight months of full-time education for each student. The Students are educated in a number of related subjects including anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and computer-based transcription. The academic course work is complemented by an academic internship. Student interns are provided with the opportunity to transcribe real medical dictation under the supervision of experienced MTs trainers and editors.
Career Opportunities
Successful graduates of the Vermont MTEC program have been provided with an opportunity to become employed with a national medical transcription company (Spheris), and in our most recent session, Fletcher Allen Health Care, the largest health care provider in Vermont. Employees work out of their own homes with equipment provided by Fletcher Allen.
Education & Training
The Vermont MTEC program is committed to bringing the MT education to rural Vermonters. Training and education with the Vermont MTEC program is conducted online so people all over Vermont can complete their training from their homes. All educational materials including books, tapes, and computers are provided by the Vermont MTEC program.
Eligibility
All applicants must be residents of the state of Vermont and have a high school diploma.
Faculty
The consortium of participating colleges will provide quality instructors. These colleges include Vermont Technical College and Burlington College. Instructors for each session may vary depending on the location of the education session.
